Client: Commercial Business in Wigmore Street, London
Client Request
The client reported persistent overheating in their Foster EP 700 HL commercial freezer. This issue had been ongoing for two weeks, and after multiple unsuccessful attempts to secure a service engineer, they reached out to us for a medium-urgency repair visit.
Technical Work Performed
Upon arrival, the PHS engineer conducted a thorough inspection of the freezer’s refrigeration system. Initial checks revealed the system was devoid of refrigerant, necessitating the following procedure:
- System Disassembly: Removed the evaporator cover, fans, and tray to access internal components for inspection.
- Leak Detection: Utilised an electronic leak detector to perform a detailed examination. The evaporator coil was identified as the source of the leak, confirmed by electronic activation around the coil.
- System Recharge: The system was recharged with 500g of R404A refrigerant from van stock, and all disassembled components were reinstalled.
- Performance Monitoring: Initial temperature readings showed the freezer at +4°C. After reassembly and system recharging, the unit reached a stable operating temperature of -18°C.
- Comprehensive Checks: The engineer conducted additional checks on the controller parameters, including:
- Set point and differential adjustments.
- Defrost settings such as duration, end temperature, and intervals.
- Cleared a partial blockage from the condenser coil and ensured the condenser fan was operational.
Though the system is now functioning effectively, the evaporator coil must be replaced to fully rectify the leak and prevent future refrigerant loss.
